    Well, I did, and lo and behold, I was surprised with quite an awesome admin interface refresh.

    Here are some screenshots of the new admin theme being worked on. A great start!

  • Buh-Bye Gilles.

    A few days ago, I even stated on Facebook that I had made my peace with the fact that my (NDP) vote would not really count in my riding, the latter being Gilles Duceppe’s, the Bloc Québécois party leader. I also said I’d still be voting regardless, as my civic duty is important to me.

    Well… Am I ever glad I (and 20k+ others) did! Here’s what happened later that day:

    Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe announced last night he was stepping down as Bloc leader after his party took its worst drubbing in its nearly two decades of existence. […] Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe failed to clinch his own seat in Laurier-Sainte-Marie, losing to NDP neophyte Héléne Laverdière.

    Even better, he didn’t even lose to what might have been his usual competition (Liberal). Double whammy.

    To put things in perspective, here are the previous election’s results, compared to this one, in Laurier-Sainte-Marie:

    • 2008:
      • Block Québécois: 24,103 votes
      • Liberal: 8,798 votes
      • New Democratic Party: 8,209 votes
    • 2011:
      • New Democratic Party: 23,377 votes
      • Block Québécois: 17,984 votes
      • Liberal: 4,976 votes

    I first heard of Tommy Guerrero when he and I were young skaters, back in the late 80s. He was part of the Bones Brigade and is, through the latter’s videos, the source of some of the earliest memories I have of San Francisco as the truly amazing city that it is.

    Fast forward a couple of decades and Tommy is more active than ever, as a skater (business side), a musician (and guitar store and recording studio owner) as well as a designer. A well rounded man, after my own heart. He has always been, is and will likely always be one of my true idols.

  • Upcoming WordPress 3.2 Distraction Free Writing Mode

    Andrew has now committed a very spiffy improvement to the little-known full screen editing mode in WordPress.

    The Distraction Free Writing mode has been in trunk since yesterday. Would appreciate comments, suggestions, opinions, etc. Bug reports should probably go on #17136.

    Diabolical is a Denver (CO) based skateboard company. Haven’t gotten Kevin’s connection back story yet, beyond the shared location. 🙂

    Unsurprisingly yet always a source of  contentment on my end, Diabolical’s site is running on WordPress (but of course).
