What’s impressive about this foliage scene is that those leaves belong to an invasive vine species, not to the birch tree which trunk’s you see in the center. The leaves on the latter have fallen in the last two weeks, and all you see is the said vine.

In the Norton Project, Jeff Ledellaytner details how he and his brother stole their father’s 1969 Norton Commando, had it restored and then gave it back to him for Christmas.

Stickers Overdose
If an Apple designer pitched this craplution to Steve Jobs, he’d rip their still-beating heart clear out of their chest.
via HP Slate has a bad solution to “too many stickers” syndrome.

M for Montreal, Alternative Music Festival
For the past decade, Montreal has become the foundation of an alternative music movement catching the attention and respect of critics all over the world. Patrick Watson, Duchess Says, Martha Wainwright, Champion, Malajube, Cœur de Pirate, Pierre Lapointe and Beast, to name a few, have all benefited from the spotlight that this largest French speaking city in North America has quickly acquired. This impressive roster of artists, serves as the perfect example of veterans who all came together over the last five years at a small but internationally respected music industry event: M for Montreal.
Will take place from November 17th to 20th, 2010.

Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation

Massive Attack on stage at the Bell Centre, October 18th 2010. I went to see Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation tonight with Xopher at the Bell Centre. An awesome show by any measure. Both ensembles played a full 1.5 hour gig, TC had 13 members rotating and MA about 9. Only downer was that we were sitting instead of standing on the floor. Bought the tickets too late for that (oh well).
Finishing the evening at la Banquise (where else?) with Eva, who was shooting the event, and Xopher was just the cherry on top.
Next up on the live Trip-Hop front: Bonobo on November 6th and Tricky on December 11th.

UnPresenting workshop
From Nick’s blog:
Today I attended an UnPresenting workshop because I’d like to get comfortable in front of a crowd so I can be a speaker at WordCamps.
From Heather Gold‘s site:
Heather Gold is the love child of Sarah Silverman and Rachel Maddow and tours North America as a comedian, speaker, and solo performer.
This all sounds great to me. Going to have to look this up when in San Francisco. Although I do have easy access to advice from great speakers like Matt and Scott if I want to through Automattic, such a workshop is sure to facilitate things.

Backyard Puffballs
I found these mushrooms in my backyard this morning. A quick visit to a mushroom identification site leads me to think they are a type of puffballs, likely lycoperdon perlatum. Not sure if or how toxic they are since I’m not 100% positive of their type. What I’m sure of: I’m not going to try and eat them, then find out they were poisonous. 😉

Corruption-Ending SMS, I like that
On receiving their money in this way for the first time, most Afghan policemen assumed that they had been given a salary increase: in fact they had simply received their full pay for the first time. In some cases they received pay ‘rises’ of more than a third, preventing defections to the Taliban who were previously able to pay higher ‘salaries’.
